Catch Up Funding
The government has announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up. This includes a one-off universal £650 million catch-up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time.
Schools’ allocations will be calculated on a per pupil basis, providing each mainstream school with a total of £80 for each pupil in Year reception through to 11.
Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the guidance on curriculum expectations for the next academic year.
Schools have the flexibility to spend their funding in the best way for their cohort and circumstances.
At Micheldever Primary School and Barton Stacey Primary School we are using this money to support our staffing budget so that catch up can be delivered by teaching staff in small groups and 1:1 teaching. The teaching inputs will be delivered by the staff who are best placed to support each child’s or group’s needs, which predominately will be staff known to the school, either the class teacher or experienced teaching staff working under the direction of the class teacher.
We will continue to use our school assessment systems including cold task/hot task, KPIs, planning for progression assessment and additional pupil progress meetings to ensure that children are on track to catch up and where this is not the case, additional support or interventions can be put in place.
